researchIT CT Online Training - EBSCO Explora

We are currently offering three different online training sessions for our research IT CT database collection. Please click on the specific links below for details and registration. The workshop scheduled for today is highlighted.

 

EBSCO Explora for researchIT CT 
Explora is EBSCO’s newest interface for schools and public libraries, and is replacing Searchasaurus, Kid’s Search and Student Research Center. Key features include: attractive, user-friendly design; easy-to-browse categories organized by popular topics; topic overviews providing starting points for research; and much more. In this 45 minute session, we will review features and functionality of the Explora interfaces for Primary, Middle, and High Schools, and for Public Libraries. We will also preview new features planned for release over the coming months.

Using researchIT CT OneSearch
OneSearch is a unified index of information resources provided by researchIT CT. This overview will focus on key features and functionality; explore basic and advanced searching; and manipulating the results list to locate relevant full-text content. Saving results and setting up search alerts via the My EBSCOhost folder will also be covered.

EBSCO Databases and Interfaces for Public Libraries for researchIT CT 
This training session will focus on the individual EBSCOhost databases provided by researchIT CT that are most relevant to Public Libraries. We will cover basic and advanced searching in EBSCOhost, along with specific interfaces, including Legal Information Reference Center, Science Reference Center, Referencia Latina, Explora for Public Libraries, and more.

researchIT CT is part of the Connecticut Education Network. It provides all students, faculty and residents with online access to essential library and information resources. It is administered by the Connecticut State Library in conjunction with your local library.

To register for a DLD workshop or webinar, you must be one of the following:

  • current library staff member
  • undergraduate or graduate library student
  • Friend or Board Member/Trustee*
  • retired or unemployed library staff

*Unless otherwise specified that a Friend or Board Member/Trustee is not eligible for a training or workshop.

Note: paid consultants are not eligible to attend DLD workshops or webinars.

Cancellation Policy

If you cannot attend a workshop you have registered for, please remember to cancel at least 3 days in advance so we can give your spot to someone else. You can cancel via the link in your confirmation email, or by contacting Gail Hurley gail.hurley@ct.gov | (860) 704-2222.

Those who miss (without cancelling) 3 events within a 6-month period will be placed on the waiting list when registering for future events. Be sure to sign in when you arrive for any workshop.

Inclement Weather Policy

For all in-person workshops offered by the CT State Library, Division of Library Development:

If the public schools in the town where the workshop is to be held close due to weather, the workshop will be canceled. If the schools have a delay, the workshop will go on as scheduled.
