Using Microsoft Excel for the State Report

Using Microsoft Excel for the State Report

Does the thought of the CT State Library report fill you with fear? Do you spend days trying to make your statistics add up? Then sign up for this fun class with CT State Library data guru Tom Newman and Excel-lover Caitlin Augusta and approach your data collection with new confidence. We'll go over all the inputs for this year's report. Then, we'll discuss how to use Excel to track your library's statistics all year long, saving you time and stress. Master basic functions, linked sheets, and simple graphics. A basic understanding of Excel or a fearless attitude is helpful.

Objectives:

  1. To become familiar with this year's CT State Library report document and its requested information.
  2. To learn Excel functions that make data collection less tedious.
  3. To learn conditional formatting and sheet references that will further automate library statistical analysis.
  4. To create basic graphs from existing Excel data for in-house reports and community outreach.
