Event Cancelled: Say it with Impact! Public Speaking Workshop

Event Cancelled: Say it with Impact! Public Speaking Workshop

Preparing and delivering public presentations and speeches can be a daunting affair. Most of us did not join the library field to be public speakers yet are called upon to represent our libraries and fellow librarians.

You may find it difficult deciding what you want to say, how to say it, or perhaps the thought of speaking before an audience overwhelms you. Some people are naturally talented at public speaking, but the good news is that with some helpful guidance, anyone can write and deliver a successful speech that will be remembered for all the right reasons.

Learn the skills to

  • Establish a rapport with your audience so they will find you basically likeable and be open to your message
  • Engage the audience so they see why your message is important to them
  • Manage your presence so it reinforces your credibility and doesn’t undermine your message
  • Plan your major talking points for any presentation, job interview, or press conference.
  • Have a few ready responses to difficult questions so you have time to think how best to handle it.

Cheryl Bryan has been coaching and training librarians and library workers in her roles as consultant, trainer, NELA President, NELLS curriculum developer and co-ordinator for over 20 years.
