Technology Users Advisory: a Guide to understanding gadgets (Wednesday Webinar)

Technology Users Advisory: a Guide to understanding gadgets (Wednesday Webinar)

Do customers approach you all the time with requests for, “which device/tablet/eReader should I buy?” Determining what your library needs is difficult enough, but giving advice to total strangers can be intimidating. Just like answering any research question, the trick to giving good gadget advice is knowing how to get and interpret technical information. In this webinar, learners will build their confidence through exploring the world of gadgets, learning how they work, the differences between the various devices, and what questions to ask in order to determine which gadget will meet customers' needs.

After this webinar, learners will be able to:

  • Be able to ask five key questions to identify patron technology needs.
  • Be able to define at least five items in a spec sheet.
  • Be familiar with the three popular Operating Systems for handheld devices.
  • Understand the impact of device features in relation to the cost of the device
  • Be able to identify three resources for keeping up with new technology
  • Ascertain customer / patron needs
  • Identify devices fulfilling patron needs
  • Read a Spec sheet
  • Know at least 5 technology websites to seek information
  • Understand the impact of memory / storage
  •  Identify 3 different operating systems
