Do you constantly wonder how best to improve your library's service?  Are you always on the lookout for more efficient methods?  This workshop is for you!  During this all day program, John Huber will discuss the five paradoxes modern libraries face today and demonstrate how to employ value driven community service metrics, help you reclaim your library staff's true purpose and realign and redeploy your most valuable resources.  He'll share his Community Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid and provide strategies to help leverage your library's national library footprint to drive your success and growth.

John J. Huber formed the management-consulting firm of J. Huber and Associates in 1986.  He has served as an operations and service turnaround consultant for over 100 manufacturing, distribution and retail organizations.  Mr Huber has assisted over 50 libraries dramatically improve their service and cost performance through new and innovative ideas such as the holds-label solution, the no-totes delivery solution and Huber's Community Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid.  Library clients include New York Public Library, Kansas City Public Library, Austin Public Library, Ottawa Public Library, Cuyahoga Public Library, Sno Isle Libraries and Multnomah County Library.

To register for a DLD workshop or webinar, you must be one of the following:

  • current library staff member
  • undergraduate or graduate library student
  • Friend or Board Member/Trustee*
  • retired or unemployed library staff

*Unless otherwise specified that a Friend or Board Member/Trustee is not eligible for a training or workshop.

Note: paid consultants are not eligible to attend DLD workshops or webinars.

Cancellation Policy

If you cannot attend a workshop you have registered for, please remember to cancel at least 3 days in advance so we can give your spot to someone else. You can cancel via the link in your confirmation email, or by contacting Gail Hurley gail.hurley@ct.gov | (860) 704-2222.

Those who miss (without cancelling) 3 events within a 6-month period will be placed on the waiting list when registering for future events. Be sure to sign in when you arrive for any workshop.

Inclement Weather Policy

For all in-person workshops offered by the CT State Library, Division of Library Development:

If the public schools in the town where the workshop is to be held close due to weather, the workshop will be canceled. If the schools have a delay, the workshop will go on as scheduled.
