Care Through Community Partner Certification Training

Care Through Community Partner Certification Training

Thank you for your interest in becoming a certified Care Through Community Partner. As a Partner, you’ll work with DSS and My Place CT to become an authoritative source of information to help people live independently in the community.

In case you missed the training opportunities in December, we’ve scheduled another live Partner Certification training session. As a bonus, the State Department on Aging is offering Choices Certification training free of charge. The Choices training is not required for Care Through Community Partners, but it is a great expansion of services.

Even if you are not interested, please feel free to forward this to someone you think would benefit from these opportunities.

Free State Department on Aging Choices Training
The State Department on Aging, with funding from the Administration of Community Living, is offering My Place CT Partners an opportunity to receive CHOICES certification training without charge. CHOICES is a certification to prepare counselors to help people understand their Medicare options as they transition to Medicare, assistance with Medicare billing issues or how to elect Medicare options for themselves. A special training is being offered by Senior Resources in partnership with the Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc.

Who is eligible for this free training?
Individuals employed by a municipality or an agency who also plan on signing a Memorandum of Agreement with the State Department on Aging and the Department of Social Services to become a certified Care Through Community Partner and who are interested in pursuing Medicaid certification when the Department of Social Services offers this curriculum in the future.

Why is this training being offered?
The purpose is to expand the capacity of our state’s No Wrong Door system to ensure individuals have access to conflict-free information and assistance at a local level when seeking help with long-term services and supports to stay in the community. Consequently, we are encouraging individuals who are offering free-of-charge, conflict-free assistance to take advantage of this educational opportunity to help individuals make informed decisions about their Medicare options.

How does this training differ from Medicaid Certification?
The Department of Social Services administers the state Medicaid programs. Certification for Medicaid application assistance will be focusing on our state’s eligibility and guidelines for Medicaid programs, including Long Term Care. Medicaid training will be offered by the Department of Social Services in the future. Partners trained in both are needed: people seeking help to remain in the community may already be receiving or qualify for Medicare when seeking supports for long term care. The offer for this training is limited and is being offered by Senior Resources and the Center for Medicare Advocacy on March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29th. Others can take the training on a space available basis. We hope you will also consider person centered counseling training and Alliance for Information Specialist Training (AIRS) certification as well.

For more information
Contact aging.sda@ct.gov for more information. Please sign up early as we have limited space for this training. The application for the CHOICES training should be returned to Laura Crews at Senior Resources.
