What Patrons Really Want: Assessing Community Needs

Join DLD staff in this interactive zoom session and participate in some of the exercises that contribute to a powerful community needs assessment. This information session is designed to help librarians who wish to apply for LSTA literacy or planning grants fulfill the “need” requirement in a successful way. Organized around a case study, this session will allow library directors and all library staff to engage in hands-on experience with activities from the Aspen Re-Envisioning Libraries Guide that prepare a library for community dialogues. It will include exercises from the EXCITE Transformation for Libraries workshops that help a library sharply define target audiences and locate new partners, as well as model empathy mapping with these groups. A demonstration of the use of Edge 2.0 tools to enhance planning grant applications will be part of the experience. In addition, the State Data Coordinator will demonstrate the best use of data selection tools to drill down into the demographics of your town. Librarians in all staff positions who will be involved in writing LSTA grant applications are encouraged to attend.
