SUMMARY:Introduction to Scratch Coding
DESCRIPTION:Note: This workshop is open to library staff in Connecticut
only.\n\nAre you intrigued by the thought of starting a library coding club
for kids or teens but have absolutely no idea about coding? Do you feel
STEM programs would enhance your Library’s offerings\, but feel out of
your depth and have often said\, “I’m not a computer person”? Then
this class is for you. This workshop will introduce participants to Scratch
computer coding\, and the only experience you need is how to use a mouse
and the internet. Participants will identify a few online resources
suitable for youth coding\, then work through basic Scratch projects to
build confidence as a Coding Club leader. Discuss potential topics for your
coding club and ways to host remote classes. This hands-on class -
specifically and only for true beginners - will help you develop a
marketable skill and attract new patrons to your library.
\n\n\n\nObjectives:\n\n\n	To identify online resources that can be used to
support youth coding\n	To understand the underlying principles of Scratch
computer coding\n	To build beginner coding skills in Scratch such as
movement\, speech\, backgrounds\, and inputs. \n	To develop potential youth
coding class topic ideas\n	To discuss solutions for remote and asynchronous
coding clubs/programs \n\n\nNote: This is a virtual workshop on Zoom
